It wasn't the strain and stress of having to be a single parent for Sharon, the wife of an army pilot and mother of two that tore her marriage apart -- it was the fact that her husband returned from Iraq a "changed man."

I miss the military I grew up in. Everything is so damn politically correct now.

Don't be crazy! I'm in no way a racist! When I was in bootcamp, we couldn't even call be PT getting beat. Some recruites wrote home to mommy and daddy and they got Congress involed and now you can't even say you're getting beat when it's just 8 count body builders. It's shit like that. I see people coming out of bootcamp with no respect for their suppiors. I see a bunch of children calling temseleves soilders, Marines, sailors and airmen. You have baby everyone and walk on egg shells. God forbid E-1 comes in a shop and there's not an extra seat then it's hazing that they've had to siz on a box or something. Did you know you can get in more trouble for hazing than for beating the crap out of someone because they pissed you off? What the fuck?!?

Agree with you 100% OP. When I was in Basic, I could not freaking believe how much some of the people bitched, and that they actually got listened to! One girl actually had a problem with the Drill Sergeants yelling and using "foul language". Um, honey, you joined the US Army, not cheerleading camp. What exactly did she expect to hear out of drill sergeants? Worst part was that girl was in my squad (I was the squad leader), and I got my ass smoked all the time for how much she bitched.

Airborne School was another funny one. I swear to everything holy, they briefed us on the manner in which they would swat us on the ass on our way out of the plane. WTF? I mean, come on, you're jumping out of a plane, you're wearing a kevlar on your head. The jump master probably isn't even paying any attention to whether you're male or female. EVERYONE gets the swat on the ass, yet we live in such a politically correct military that they actually have a briefing on how they will swat each ass in the plane. I say again, WTF?

The hazing thing is a pain in the ass. I came into the Army half expecting to see some form of hazing. I mean, I know a lot of veterans, and they told me all about what it was like when they were in the Army, so I was ready for the hazing. Instead, people kissed my ass because I'm female (and the first female of my MOS that my battalion ever had) and they feared the all mighty EO complaint. Not that I actually WANTED to be hazed, but I have to say, I was a little weirded out by the fact that I was treated more like a visitor of some sort than the new Private... Eventually they got used to me, but every time we got a FNG NCO, he'd take one look at me and have a small freak out much like the others at first.

So yeah, the kinder gentler Army is dumb. Bring back the real stuff.
