After banning YouTube and other social Web sites on all overseas computers in May, citing bandwidth and security issues, the U.S. military on Tuesday launched TROOP TUBE, an alternative video-sharing Web site for troops, their families, and supporters. Have any of you tried it??? Let us know! We'd love to post your trooptube videos here on TMWC!

I think the whole ptsd card is wayyyy overused. If you heard of somebody hit with an IED 2 years ago in the spot you are standing, that does not qualify you for the ptsd excuse.

It isn't always though. I took care of a man who didn't have PTSD until 20 years after the incident he was in. Some people are just more sensitive to events than others are.

how the hell would you know.. have you been there? no probably not.. so stfu

I yelled at my husband yesterday because of this. He just got out of Afghanistan 4 days ago and he said he would go do something stupid and blame ptsd. He was kidding and I got so mad. He says that the "excuse" is so overused where he is now and it's ridiculous. But it's still so real for some people. Nothing to joke about.

Many disorders are misdiagnosed or over diagnosed, it isn't just a PTSD issue. PTSD is a real and bonafide disorder, just because many inexperienced docs over diagnose it doesn't mean there aren't many many people struggling to live with this disorder every day.

the sad part is the military doesnt give a shit about you, if you have it well then your a body that needs to be replaced so they try to get you out and be done with you

it is proven that 8 out of every 10 Military people have PTSD, so yeah the card can be played alot

I agree whole-heartedly with 4:50.

- A wife that lovingly, yet sometimes painfully, lives every day with an Iraq Vet with PTSD.

PTSD can hit at anytime. My husband was in the initial push north into Baghdad, and didn't show signs of PTSD until 2 years ago. So that was 3 years down the road. He just got back from another deployment (he now has a different MOS) and doesn't understand how anyone could have gotten PTSD. It's there, though. A lot of times PTSD doesn't always come from seeing bad things over there. Being away from family and friends for 15 months can really screw with your mind. Granted, there are people who are going to use the PTSD card, but you can usually tell who those shit bags are.

There are Vietnam vets who are still coming foward with PTSD. It can happen ANY time after the event.

Bullshit.

Brains are amazing and tricky things. If you used yours, you would know that.

PTSD IS real and anyone who says differently is ignorant. That "card" is not overused. If anything, it's underused. Too many of our troops are scared to admit they are having problems because of idiots like you.

OP here. Does everyone on this site have poor comprehension skills? I never said it was not real. I never said that it did not exist. I said that it was an over used diagnoses.
ftr I never said that I did not fight in the war, and I never said that I had not been in an experience that could cause ptsd. Assume much?

Haha no... you said the PTSD "card" is overused, not that it is over-diagnosed. Nowhere in your original statement did you use the word "diagnosis." Those are two different things; a diagnosis is made by a doctor afer reviewing a person's symptoms... your statement indicated that soldier's are claiming they have PTSD for what you deem "silly" reasons in order to use it as an excuse. Making a general social statement like that is far more likely to receive negative feedback than giving an emotionally neutral and factually supported assessment of the diagnosis and treatment of PTSD in soldiers.

If you had said that you personally felt from your observations and experiences that PTSD is being over-diagnosed as a blanket term for a variety of mental conditions that soldiers are experiencing, then people probably wouldn't have been so upset and assumed you didn't fight in the war.

Also, regardless of WHY PTSD begins... the sympotms are still what they are. As with any other mental condition, what may not affect you, could very well affect someone else. Whether you agree with a doctor's diagnosis of someone or not, until you have a medical degree specializing in mental health, and spend your working life diagnosing and treating these types of diseases, you don't really have the qualifications to make strong judgements about the diagnosis of such a serious illness. It may be personally frustrating to you and difficult to understand, but just realize that expressing those frustrations in such a manner is bound to upset many people.

Ok 11:05. I said overused as opposed to over diagnosed. I actually meant the former. But they both apply. Here are some examples.

A soldier comes up hot for pot and meth in a piss test. He claims the ptsd made him do it.... Both months he came up hot for it...

A wife is a bitch to her husband. He finally has enough of it and leaves her. Well, it must be that he has ptsd from being in Kuwait for 3 months than the fact that they had a crappy marriage.

i said it was way over used. And I believe it may be misdiagnosed. Do I think every ptsd is bullshit? NO. Some people have honest to God, how do they live with that, symptoms. But when it is used for every hangnail and every missed formation, people are going to start calling bullshit.
