After banning YouTube and other social Web sites on all overseas computers in May, citing bandwidth and security issues, the U.S. military on Tuesday launched TROOP TUBE, an alternative video-sharing Web site for troops, their families, and supporters. Have any of you tried it??? Let us know! We'd love to post your trooptube videos here on TMWC!

This new birth control legislation that they are trying to pass scares the shit out of me. Birth control is not abortion. The Pill tricks the body into thinking it is already pregnant and stops an egg from releasing. I don't understand how that can be equated with an abortion. I really hope this doesn't pass. It'd be a giant step backwards.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The Bush administration is going to push what they can before his term is over, but something that big would never get passed.

But it is abortion. It doesn't trick the body into thinking it is pregnant...it makes the uterus uninviting for a fertilized egg. If the body thinks you are pregnant when you are not, then why do you have a period on the end of month pills?

Prepare for all the bible thumping assholes to come out OP, and claim how taking birth control is wrong because it is abortion.

Yay! Lets live in a country that's promoted as the country of freedom, but then force everyone to follow our own morals and personal believes because we're closed minded assholes! Woo hoo!

I just read this on a pro-life website:

"If you have used these products -- there is a very real possibility that you unknowingly aborted one or more of your tiny sons or daughters. Please do not despair! Know that you may receive comfort in your sorrow. If you did not know these "birth control" products cause early abortions, then you are not "culpable." This means you're not morally responsible in God's eyes. And because you did not know the true consequences of chemical "birth control" products, you will not be held morally responsible for any harm they may have caused.

Remember, for anyone to commit a sinful act, all three of the following circumstances must be present:
1) The act must break one of God's Laws,
2) The person must know they are breaking God's Law, and
3) The person must freely choose to break God's Law with their own free will.

Again, if you've used "birth control" pills and you were unaware of the consequences, God will not hold you morally accountable. Our God is a merciful, loving Father. He will only judge us based on our knowledge of right and wrong. And when we do wrong, He's always ready to forgive us -- no matter how serious the sin.

At the same time, He has given us guidelines to protect us and to help us be happy. And now that you know the truth about "birth control" pills -- if you're using them -- isn't it time to stop?"

Gag me please.

I am a Christian and birth control is NOT abortion! Give me a freaking break. I really hate being associated with these idiots...

3:02 Please do not bring God into this discussion if you're going to give out information that just makes Christianity look bad. I have used the pill and I now use condoms. I believe in God but I also believe the Bible WAS written in a time when the Earth needed to be well populated. It is now so that's not an issue to me.

I don't think I'm going to Hell for popping a BC pill or using a condom. If God wanted me to get pregnant that badly, He would make it happen whether or not I was using some method of protection. I don't believe the majority of women use abortions as BC. I think so many women struggle with this decision and if they know they cannot be good mothers to the children they conceive..maybe they should have abortions. I am sick of hearing child abuse stories on the news by women who were better off aborting in the first place. At least then you send your child back to God before it's even born and you torture that child it's whole 2 or 3 or 6 years of life. :(

Yeah some women abuse abortions and do make it their chosen method of BC. But like welfare..some need it and some do not. We don't stop giving them help because someone abuses it.

I'm a Christian and honestly the misinformation you ladies spout off embarasses me..no wonder so many people hate Christians. So quick to judge on experiences you've never been through. If you could walk a day in another woman's shoes....

Signed,
A pro-choice Christian woman who had her first child by a deadbeat and nowhere to turn to. Didn't choose abortion but doesn't fault the women who do.

P.S. Some of you girls need to have a heart.

Oh man, I need to do some googling and find out what this legislation is. I have not read about it yet. I have been busy since my husband is just home from Iraq. Not that it's an excuse for not knowing the news.... I need to read up. This sounds very important.

I hope they are not talking about restricting access to BC in general. I used to have a copper IUD (I am pregnant now so I have nothing currently) and wanted to get another after I have the baby. I hope I will be able to get one in this country still.

BTW, I'm Catholic, and I don't think BC is a sin. I'm aware that this is in contradiction to the Vatican's stance on the issue. This is one area where I just plain disagree with them.

"3:59

I did read the last line of her post and I don't care. She doesn't need to bring God into this discussion if all she can find is some anti-abortion site going to extremes. I saw it as, in her mind, a perfect opportunity to diss God.

God is about forgiveness, love, and understanding. Like I said, when the Bible was written He wanted the Earth to be well-populated so that's why He wanted women to have as many children as they could. The Earth is plenty populated now. I am aware she was being a smartass...she didn't need to bring that shit into the discussion. And yes, I swore and I'm a Christian, too. I still love God..to me that's what matters. Have an issue? I don't care if you don't like it. You don't have a Heaven I am trying to get into. Languages and dialects are not the same they were 2000 or so years ago. What was considered a swear word then may not be now. The Bible doesn't specify too much. I say what I want. I am Christian and pro-choice..it IS possible.

Anonymous said:

WOW! 3:59, you said it ALL. I am a Christian and pro-choice... I myself have never been on BC because I have never needed it (and yes, I have 2 children). But it is things like this and comments like "be prepared for the Bible thumping Christians" that make you look bad. Maybe if you weren't so hard and would take a minute to understand that not EVERY CHRISTIAN is what you think, how you've shoved them into your cookie cutter mold, you'd find that we aren't all the same. That we don't all have the same ideals, principles and even morals. Some of us even find that BC IS GASP APPROPRIATE!!!! Hell, I know lots of people that should have used it and didn't.

3:02
I believe the "pro-choice website" you found with that info quite possibly could have been full of the biggest crap I have ever heard in my life. So you're right... gag me please... that is about the only thing I agree with about your post.

I'm a Christian and I don't believe BC is abortion at all. I believe life begins at conception and if there is no conception taking place, no abortion can be done. I think it's foolish to have unprotected sex unless you're ready and trying for a child.

I don't hate Christians FYI. That website was made by fundamentalists who want to force everyone to do their God's bidding. I have only a problem with them.

Also, bible thumpers = bible thumpers. Not bible thumpers = Christians. Again, I view bible thumpers as fundamentalists. I never mentioned anything about Christians nor a specific group.

I never said anything about Christians in general, so please don't put words in my mouth.

The only reason I brought that in here is because THOSE type of people are the ones who are all gunho about enforcing all these anti-abortion laws because their God says to do so. I wasn't bashing religion, or God, or Christians etc. Just those that think like that. If you don't there shouldn't be a problem since I wasn't making generalizations.

Okay, religion aside, MOST of the time BC pills do not induce abortion. They prevent fertilization by preventing the release of an egg.

But, as a backup, they do also make the uterine lining inhospitable to a fertilized egg. So, if an egg does get released despite the pill, and it does get fertilized, it cannot implant in the uterus.

Technically, the second scenario is an abortion.

I do think women deserve to know this so that they can choose to use the pill or not according to their beliefs.

July 23, 2008 2:35 PM

The pill prevents an egg from even being released. You don't ovulate when you're on the pill, like others have said, your body thinks it's pregnant already. The uterus lining gets thicker because it thinks you're pregnant. You have a period because at the end of the pack you stop the hormones that are tricking your body.

Now an IUD will prevent a fertilized egg from implanting, but the pill doesn't.

I'm sorry, but some people just don't need to have kids. Like 14 and 15 year old girls still in high school. Birth control is sometimes necessary.

Anonymous said:

Birth control...prevents you from having a baby... it doesnt abort the child unless you use it in a nonauthorized way.. which could hurt you also.

Anonymous said:

Sorry 6:35, but you are wrong.

If you are on a combination (estrogen and progesterone) pill, it works by preventing ovulation. Not by making your body think you were pregnant. If that were the case you wouldn't have a period at all. What is does is stops the brain from signaling to the ovary to release an egg. However, occasionally, a woman might have a "Breakthrough" ovulation while on the pill. This is why the pill also works by thickening the cervical mucus--to make it hard for sperm to get through, and by thinning the lining of the uterus so the fertilized egg can not attach.

If you are on a progesterone only pill you still ovulate but other changes in your body prevent sperm from getting to the egg (thickening the cervical mucus--to make it hard for sperm to get through, and by thinning the lining of the uterus so the fertilized egg can not attach).

In either case you still have a period because your body continues to produce and shed the lining that would nurture the fertilized egg if it were present.

As for the Mirena IUD it works in three ways (I got this from their website).
* Block sperm from reaching or fertilizing your egg
* Make the lining of your uterus thin (this may also result in benefits like less menstrual bleeding over time)
* Stop the release of your egg from your ovary (but this is not the way it works in most cases)
