I have a Mexican flag. By no means does that mean I dont love America. It means I am proud of my heritage.

I don't see anything wrong with it, and I also think it's kind of biased the way people bash on those who display the Mexican flag. Nobody has EVER given me a hard time over my Irish flag. I think this is a total double standard, and that anyone has the right to display the flag of the country they came from if they so choose.

Why does such stupid stuff bother people? I will never understand this kind of thinking. I know many mixed couples and they fly flags of other nations. Doesn't mean they or their spouse loves this country less; just that they love thier haritage as much as they love this country. Why does it have to be an all or nothing thing? Can't they love both? You have obviously never lived in another country that you liked, otherwise you would know you can like one place as much as another without being disloyal. Do you have sisters or brothers? You probably like all your siblings; just in different ways. It doesn't make you disloyal if you like both of your siblings; just different things about them.

I don't find if offensive in the least, and I don't care what flag it is, but I do think that if you are going to fly the flag of your home country, it would be common courtesy to also show respect for the country in which you live.

THIS. It is tricky being non-Hispanic and living in San Diego county, especially the southern part of the county. I'm tired of being looked at like an idiot because I speak only minimal Spanish. (I speak enough to get by but I fumble for words and it takes me a while to get things out.) I think I speak more Spanish than some of them speak English. I don't even think people need to be completely fluent in English, but enough to get by would be helpful.

I did witness the riots. I was one of just a few people who showed up to work back in May of 2006, and I thought it was frankly ridiculous. I also have had trouble finding jobs due to the fact that I am not fluent in Spanish. Even the TSA wants you to have a good working knowledge of Spanish now, and that's our own government.

I know that our country is changing quickly, but why should we be the only ones who have to change? If you choose to come here, at least TRY to acclimate.

Also, there used to be a time when immigrants refused to let their children speak anything but English because they wanted them to be Americans.

I come from a Mexican family, growing up my parents refused to let either my siblings or I speak anything but English. I must say I am glad, my writing and speaking skills are impeccable. So, although I believe this post should have been written a lot better I have to partially agree. Some individuals do overdue the "heritage pride deal".

we've got a hospital here that is on the verge of closing because of this very problem. they've already discontinued delivering babies because they deliver 40 a week that they never get payed for...and then we end up paying for them to have WIC and food stamps when they don't even speak our language.
