VP Sarah Palin -- Good for women? Good for the Military?

Sarah Palin is a pawn. Plain and simple. Sad thing is, I don't think she even realizes it. Did you?
She was not even selected by John McCain, she was selected by his team of consultants, campaign advisors, writers, etc. He only met this woman ONCE in his entire life and feels she is the best VP for his ticket? Please, this is obviously a move to outshine the first black man to be president by Republicans taking on a woman to run as the first female vice president. Who in the world is Sarah Palin is the reaction from much of the media and viewers when he bought her to the stage yesterday to show us his running mate. Sorry, Sarah - it is a little late in game when elections are 65 days away to try to get America to get to know you. Poor timing. Poor choice. Probably poor outcome.

I couldn't care less. They're all the same, no matter what skin color, gender, etc., and they sure don't care about us! Engaging in politics means having to check your brain at the door, anyway.

I think it's tacky McCain chose her. He's just using her to try to get the female votes. What scares me the most is what if McCain is elected and something happens to him? We'll be stuck with a person that has zero experience internationally and basically has no clue period. Our country is enough shambles right now, we don't need her adding to it.

This choice is so transparent. I'd be embarrassed to be a McCain supporter at this point. She is no doubt a strong, respectable woman in her own right, but Vice-President of the United States? Possibly the leader of the free world should McCain get elected and quite possibly expire during office? This is really scary. She is a woman, yes, great. I want a woman president, but not this one and not this way. She is way too religious right, not a direction we need to continue to take this country.

I agree with most of the posts. She was just a pawn. McCain was "trying" to play it smart and be a little trickster but he's just not very good. As someone else said. The choice was very transparent. He didn't even choose her until after Obama had announced Biden. I wonder...if Obama had chosen Clinton...who would McCain have chosen? I assure you there is a much greater depth to his political and life experience as compared to Palin. I am not in the least bit worried about Obama. I am so grateful for the prospect of a president with a brain as well as a heart. This country needs a person who truly cares and can make a positive difference in our reputation around the world. And does it not at all bother you that McCain never had any sort of relationship with his choice of a running mate? Really? I find that more disturbing than any other part of all this. And now he calls her his "soulmate"? And no, most likely he won't drop dead as he walks into office, but we all know he is getting up in years and what he experienced in Vietnam most likely took a few years off his life. I hope he continues to live a long and productive life as I do admire him, just not as our president.

I dont really understand why people spend so much time thinking about WHY she was chose, or about her daughter, or how likeable she is, what a woman VP candidate means...etc. Do you agree with her the ISSUES, or not?? That is all that should be considered. I personally do not agree with her on the issues (or McCain) so I will not be voting for her, period. The rest dosen't matter.

I felt bad for her, but after seeing her face plastered on every gossip magazine and all her dirty laundry being aired all over every news source I know she brought it on herself. She knew damn well she was being used as a pawn by McCain's campaign and was only chosen because she has a vagina. The U.S. is fascinated by her life, but it's not in the way that the GOP wanted. Watching Sarah Palin is like watching a slow moving train wreck... you can't stop that it's happening, but you're horrified nonetheless.

I agree it's a train wreck. Hopefully one that will crash and burn sooner than later (not literally of course). I can't imagine having this dog and pony show leading our country for the next four years.
Of course I don't agree with her (or McCain) on the issues and I am an Independent. It's just such a lame move on his part and the far right is gobbling this up. I actually heard someone say today, "Well Rush likes her!" Like he would dare to say so if he didn't? It would cost them the election!
The fact that her daughter is pregnant matters not in the least to me, it's the fact that she chose to run for VP at a time when her family is in crisis. Priorities. Just like I was pissed at John Edwards for running when his wife had cancer. Priorities people.

Knowing what is at stake for our military men if her and McCain get in office is scary. He thinks we should be in Iraq indeffinately. Personally from being there for a year serving in the Active Army I see it is our time to slowly start pulling out. He is another Bush and we don't need that!!!

She runs a family, has run a town, and now runs a state.

She felt like the governors' private jet was wasteful to the taxpayers of Alaska, so she sold it. Same with the chef, same with the drivers.

When oil prices skyrocketed, she put more money into the pockets of Alaskans.

She wants to cut taxes and has done so in Alaska. She has taken on seasoned political veterans and won, and she's a down to earth, real person.

More people voted for her for Mayor than voted for Biden in the entire National Democratic primary! He was run out of the race last time he tried for the nomination because he was a proven plagarist.

It's apples to oranges, but she has more executive experience than Obama and she is independent--not part of the Chicago political machine beholden to political benefactors. She is more sensible and well spoken than Obama and frankly I like her much better.

So I have no problem at all with her choice--she certainly is not a pawn--she is a renegade and maverick just like John--neither of them like wasteful government spending and neither do I so it's a perfect fit.

Speak to the facts, people, and the issues. If you think she was chosen for her vagina, then Obama was chosen for his black penis--see how stupid that sounds?

Get over yourselves, support whomever you feel is going to do a better job, but leave the petty jealousy behind and stick to the facts and issues. If Obama can leave his young girls behind to campaign, she can do the same with her kids. Unless there is a double standard for a woman?

When I vote this November, I will do so by really looking hard at every single american that is struggling, and are losing jobs and home. Not because of race, gender, republican, or democrat. But because these past 8 yrs. have not been good for anyone. We have a responsibility as people, to think what is really needed for this country to get ahead again! I am a mother serving in the military and will be leaving in November. I am happy that Sarah Palin was chosen because she is a woman, but I think she was a pawn. It is wonderful to see a woman chosen for this position, but it was just because she is a woman. That is not right. I would consider myself liberal in views, but I had much respect for McCain. The main disagreement I had with his views was about the war in Iraq. I feel he will not only have us over there for a long time, but may start another war.

Another thing I can't get over is how Gov Palin can leave her baby. As a mother, we should wait until our children are at least in school to start taking on major responsibility. At least she could wait until her child was walking. My son is almost 3 and I'm about to be a single parent. I can't imagine staying in the military because I have to be there while he goes to school. I don't want to miss any of it.

Well, having a husband that has served in the military for over a decade, I wouldn't feel safe with you in his command or any command for that matter. You should most definitely get out of the military - we don't need wimpy, little cry baby's that can't take it or need their mommy once they are asked to actually do their jobs. I don't know a single person who feels our soldiers are meaningless. You can be against the war and still support our soldiers, a fact that so many seem to not understand. And I am sorry, but this war IS politically driven whether we like it or not. It is a sad, sad thing to realize but it's true. It doesn't mean our spouses are anything less than amazing or heroic. Not many voluntarily do what they do or would even consider it.

Sarah Palin scares me. Anti-birth control, anti abortion, anti sex ed (and look where that has gotten her daughter). McCain hasn't even figured out that condoms can stop the spread of AIDS.

Whenever I see them on television, I feel the urge to donate a few hundred dollars more to Planned Parenthood. Sadly, my husband and I would be broke in about twenty minutes.

I really don't understand how any woman can call Palin a feminist. Pregnancy can bring about serious medical complications, and not all of them kill. Her stance basically says, "the potential a fetus has is worth more than the life and health of an adult woman". I suppose trivial things like the physical and mental health of women don't really matter to her, though.

Luckily, I'm a Canadian expat, so I can jump home if I never need access to a legal, safe, free abortion. Rich American women will be able to jump a border to Mexico or Canada and do the same. Sadly, it'll be the middle and working class women who will suffer.

McCain/Palin is the ONLY ticket that will ensure future success of your loved ones' military careers.. If it was up to Obama we wouldn't have a need for militaries and Military funding would be slashed. PERIOD. That includes par raises, and safety equipment for our troops. We may pull out of Iraq, but our loved ones will ALWAYS deploy. That is the life that your sailor.soldier.marine.airman signed up for.

After her interview last night, we should all think very seriously about her as a possible President. I would LOVE to see woman as a President. In the end, it does women more harm than good if she is not completely prepared for the job. In my honest opinion, I do not think she has the education or experience to be VP, let alone President. We expect our teachers to get a master's degree within 5 years, but we think it is OK for her to be VP without an advanced degree. McCain does not have an advanced degree BUT he did attend the Air Force Academy and he has YEARS of experience. Our husband's children's kives are at stake here. We cannot be emotional or have gender bias about this year's election.

Agree with the previous poster. She is gravely unprepared for this job. Someone who would accept such a major responsibility "without blinking" is cause for concern. She loves the limelight and frankly seems to be a bit of a control freak. I liked John McCain until he made this decision, now he seems unsteady and she, well, for an Independent secular voter, she seems downright frightening.

Goodness, it is just so awful that she is religious. We wouldn't want another leader who believes in God. That is exactly what we need. Gossip magazines are full of shit and every single person in the world has some "dirty laundry." What exactly is her dirty laundry? That she has a pregnant teenage daughter? So do millions of other Americans (one reason why so many people can relate to her. Of course, let's not forget that she is pro-life and may want to take away the precious right to choose. I find Sarah Palin to be a down to earth young lady with strong character and conviction to herself, family, country and to God. I admire her and her family they are the American

any one question Nancy Polosi's ability when she had a child or two more then Governor Palin and not all of Polosi's children were grown when she went into the political arena.
I do not know the ages of the Polosi children when Mrs. Polosi took on her political roles. But I'm sure Governor Palin is up to the task.
She has as much if not more experience as democratic candidates Obama and Biden. And she knows she can do all
things through Christ out Lord who will strenghten her as she prays to be the insturment of God's will.
I admire the fact that she is pro-life and has brought a beautiful life into the world; anyone who has had a child or
worked with down's syndrome people knows the are a true reflection of unconditional love. They are very loving and
giving of themselves in all they do. And as for her young daughter being with child ; I applaude the family for pro-life; it makes me wonder how many of the democatic party is wagging their tonuges about this and at the same time have sent their daughters to an abortion clinic or had abortions themselves. The choice does not and should not take place after the fact but the choice begins when the couple decides to engage in the act of lovemaking and taking the responsibilty of what comes with it; abortion is the easy, self-centered and cowardly way out. There is enough controceptives on the market and if you still become
pregnant then that child is to come into the world. We have
thrown away a whole generation of people ( a baby
holocaust) has taken place. And as for a woman's health, I
was one of the women with a pregnancy that threatened my health but that baby came in to the world bright and healthy
and I recovered fully I was told not to have any more and I
heeded the advice of my doctor I was truly grateful for the one I could have. I had a tubaligation.With all of the millions of abortions I often wonder how many of those babies could have been the one who may have grown to be the
scientist/doctor who held the key to curing the dreadful illness that some of us battle. Late term abortion: I cannot
think of one medical condition that would have need of such
a procedure, delivery of the child by c-section or inducted
delivery but not an abortion and if the child is not wanted there is the option of adoption for those who cannot have a
child of their own could then be available.
