I was reading a great new site today, Firstwivesworld.com and came across an article talking about the toll that war can take on a marriage. It wasn't the strain and stress of having to be a single parent for Sharon, the wife of an army pilot and mother of two that tore her marriage apart -- it was the fact that her husband returned from Iraq a "changed man." Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

TMWC is partnering with Capessa.com to give a few lucky ladies the chance to give their husbands a welcome back surprise that will be sure to remind him just how great it is to come home. The women we select to participate will be filmed for a series of online videos that will be published in the fall.

Requirements:

- We're looking for women whose husbands are coming home in October.
- We're looking primarily for women in the Los Angeles or San Diego area, although women from all locations are welcome to audition. *If you are applying from outside of SoCal, we would love if a group of 3-4 friends in the same city applied together.

o Brief description of your family (# kids, etc.)
o How long your husband has been gone
o Why you want the makeover
- Written submissions are great, but you can also include photos and and/or videos to further enhance your submission.

There are two really interesting projects I read about this weekend that made me think of all of you - a new documentary series called In Their Boots and a special on Nickelodeon called "Coming Home: When Parents Return from War." Many of you are living these stories and have shared morsels of them here on the site -- I hope you continue to do so in a supportive environment where sharing your real stories can help you and others.

I'm so excited to share the news that we have a new guest blogger on TMWC -- the talented Sarah Smiley, navy wife, author of Shore Duty - a syndicated newspaper column and of the memoir, GOING OVERBOARD: The Misadventures of a Military Wife.

My husband and I strongly believe that children should be both protected from diseases that could hurt them AND receive products that are as safe as possible that don't contain harmful ingredients and have been thoroughly tested before they are marketed. They are very simple, no-nonsense, fiscally responsible requests.
