My wedding is going to be so fabulous that people are telling me I should charge a cover. (Not that I would, but it's very flattering to hear)I have actually received emails and had people come up to me whom I barely know to ask me if they can come to my wedding. I am going to have the most popular band in the area performing there and it is going to take place at the most expensive venue in the state. My confession: with all my connections in the wedding world, my wedding is going to be dirt cheap. It only SEEMS expensive!

x2 on having honest, loving family members who give money to help, not to have influence in wedding planning. My parents gave my BF and I a $10k check for a down payment on a house with another $5k to follow in the next tax year for a wedding when we are ready. It's what my family has done for every generation and a tradition I will continue when we have children.

My husband and I intended to pay for our wedding by ourselves, and we didn't ask anybody for a dime. My dad surprised us a few months beforehand with a check for $8,000. No special requests, no strings attached, he didn't even know or care exactly what we did with it. Maybe we're the exception, but I wanted to let you brides know that there ARE family members out there who may offer to help with the wedding just out of the goodness of their hearts.

So, FMIL wants my DF to come home "just him" for a family weekend...even though she knows we have plans...and he's seriously considering doing it. This is just the latest episode with her. Sometimes I wish I could tell him what I really think of her.

WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING Brides, if a family member (his or yours) offers you a big chunk of money for the wedding? And tells you there are "no strings attached"? DO NOT BELIEVE IT! DO NOT ACCEPT THE MONEY! Months down the road this duplicitous individual will be instructing you to invite all their cousins and their graduating class (whom you've never met) and hire their favorite band and serve their favorite cocktails and how about a square dance? WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING
